Wrightsville Beach, NC has been host to a very uncommon visitor, a Mountain bluebird (Sialia currucoides). It’s presence has birders flocking from all over the area to catch a glimpse of this rare guest. According to Cornell Labs, Mountain bluebirds are fairly common, but populations declined by about 24% between 1966 and 2015. This population decline is significant if only because it highlights a spreading crisis for wildlife. Habitat loss. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for our wayward traveler! Happy birding!
